SAKHI for Girls Education

Aarti Naik, founder

Aarti is a one-woman army, bringing safe and quality learning spaces to 100+ slum-based girls in her slum in Mumbai. Aarti focuses on literacy, numeracy and life skills in her daily classes. She also travels door-to-door with her Book Bank to distribute books in English and Marathi and encourage a love for reading. And Aarti has initiated a savings program with the girls’ mothers to help create a support system to pay for school as the girls get older. Aarti’s work focuses on those who are ordinarily ignored and even discouraged from going to school and provides a way for young girls to be leaders and innovators in their community.
